What We Do at SVGHRA

ACHIEVEMENTS

Some human rights work and activities done by the svghra during the past ten years.

THE PROMOTION OF WOMEN’S RIGHTS BY:

  • Holding Seminar\Workshops on topics such as “Women’s Rights are Human Rights”, Domestic Violence, and Violence in Society in General”. We decided to start monitoring violence against women and campaigned to put legislation in place to implement redress for victims of such violence. [ Photos ]
  • Our advocacy on Domestic Violence got the local Parliament to pass the Domestic Violence (Summary Proceedings) Act, 1995.
  • Seminars on the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW).
  • Consultations in Town and Village Meetings with women and on their problems and advising ways and means how they can seek redress. Those Meetings also explained some issues coming out of the Plan of Action on the BEIJING World Conference on Women in 1995.
